The true journey toward heaven begins at Calvary. This is the only starting point in the Christian life because this is where we as sinners met our Savior, were ransomed, healed, restored, and forgiven.
Beyond the starting point I have just described, many deviations from the plan of God may occur. It is possible for a Christian to live on a carnal level instead of on a spiritual level. It is possible for a Christian to walk after the flesh even though he/she is converted to walk in the Spirit. It is possible for a Christian to be saved, but to be saved as by fire: one day to stand before the judgment seat of Christ stripped of everything but his/her soul's salvation.
I am not interested in getting to heaven
By the skin of my teeth, are you?
My one desire is to get there by God's grace
After my useful life in Christ is through.
The purposes of the Lord in saving my soul
Must be fulfilled at any cost
For it was His great love that redeemed me
That I might not remain alone and lost.
